The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has approved the purchase of 120 electric UPSRTC buses and 1,000 BS-6 diesel buses, aiming to enhance transportation during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj next year.
Electric Buses for Maha Kumbh
- Maha Kumbh Preparation: The new electric buses will primarily be used during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
- Extended Operation: Apart from Prayagraj, these environment-friendly buses will also be operated in cities with religious significance such as Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan, as well as in Lucknow and Gorakhpur.
BS-6 Diesel Buses
- Enhanced Fleet: The inclusion of 1,000 BS-6 diesel buses will bolster UPSRTC’s capacity to manage increased passenger flow during significant events and in major cities.
Recruitment of Conductors
- Addressing Shortage: UPSRTC plans to recruit 10,000 conductors to address the current shortage, which has led to buses going off-route and causing revenue losses.
- Government Initiative: Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh emphasized the importance of this recruitment drive to ensure smooth operations and minimize financial losses.
Conclusion
UPSRTC’s strategic purchase of electric and BS-6 diesel buses, along with the recruitment of additional conductors, highlights the corporation’s commitment to providing efficient and environmentally friendly transportation solutions during major events and in key cities across Uttar Pradesh.
