On Saturday, Transport Minister SS Sivasankar inaugurated 23 new Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation TNSTC buses at a ceremony in Kanniyakumari. These additions aim to enhance connectivity and passenger comfort across several key routes.
New Routes and Services
- Colachel-Dindigul
- Kanniyakumari-Rameshwaram
- Kanniyakumari-Vellankanni
- Kanniyakumari-Salem
- Nagercoil-Tanjore
- Nagercoil-Dindigul
These routes are designed to improve accessibility and service efficiency in the region.
Expansion and Upgrades
- Recent Additions: From May 2021 to June 2024, the TNSTC Tirunelveli division, which covers Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari districts, introduced 111 new buses and 249 renovated buses. Specifically, 50 new buses and 97 renovated buses have been allocated to the Nagercoil region.
- Future Plans: For the fiscal year 2023-2024, 99 new buses are planned, and an additional 302 buses are scheduled for 2024-2025.
Free Bus Travel and Benefits
- Women’s Free Bus Travel: Over 24.82 crore women have benefited from free travel in the Nagercoil region.
- Retired Workers: Efforts are underway to ensure retired transport workers receive cash benefits.

- 27 New Buses for Nellai Region: Assembly Speaker M Appavu and Transport Minister SS Sivasankar also flagged off 27 new buses for the Tirunelveli region. These will service routes such as:
- Tirunelveli-Tenkasi
- Vallioor-Rameswaram
- Tirunelveli-Kovilpatti
- Thisayanvilai-Rameswaram
- Papanasam-Madurai
The new buses are expected to significantly enhance connectivity and service quality in these regions.
