In a significant move to enhance public transportation, Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar and Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy flagged off 39 new Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses at the M.G.R. bus stand on Monday.
New and Refurbished Buses
- Total Buses Launched: 39
- For Rural Areas: 25
- For City Areas: 14
- New Buses: 26, costing ₹10.92 crore
- Refurbished Buses: 13, refurbished at a cost of ₹2.01 crore
Expansion in Madurai Region
- Total Allocation: 388 buses for the Madurai region
- Buses Launched: 212 so far
- Region Coverage: Madurai, Dindigul, and Virudhunagar
Enhancing Rural Connectivity
Minister Sivasankar emphasized the importance of TNSTC buses for rural connectivity. The Tamil Nadu government is committed to supplying new buses to meet the transportation needs of people in rural areas.
Passenger and Route Statistics
- Passengers: Approximately 318 lakh passengers utilize TNSTC services in the Madurai region every month.
- Daily Target: 9.78 lakh km for bus trips
- Monthly Target: 293.40 lakh km
