The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Kumbakonam Division has been bolstered with the addition of 289 new TNSTC buses, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of its services.
New Fleet Additions
- 289 New Buses: Inducted to replace older buses in the fleet.
- Mofusil Routes: 227 buses allocated for longer, intercity routes.
- Town Bus Services: Remaining buses to serve local routes within towns.
Launch Event
Transport Minister SS Sivashankar flagged off 23 of these new buses at the Kumbakonam bus stand on Thursday. This event is part of a larger initiative to improve the state’s public transportation system.
Upcoming Enhancements
- Pre-Election Expansion: 1,000 new buses added recently, with an additional 300 buses being integrated before the upcoming general elections.
- Bus Refurbishment: 88 refurbished buses with good chassis condition have been allocated to TNSTC’s Scam Division, with 54 already operational on various routes.
- Electric Buses: Tenders have been invited for the procurement of 100 out of 500 planned electric buses to be included in the transport corporations’ fleet.
