TNSTC announces a major shift! Starting January 30, 80% of moffusil buses move to Kilambakkam for enhanced operations.

In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) is set to shift 80% of its mofussil buses to operate from Kilambakkam starting January 30. The decision, announced by State Transport Minister SS Sivasankar, aims to streamline bus operations and improve passenger services. Here are the key details:

Shift from KCBT to Kilambakkam

  • Inspection and Announcement: Following an inspection at Koyambedu CMBT (KCBT) in Kilambakkam, Minister Sivasankar confirmed the transition, emphasizing that 80% of TNSTC moffusil buses would be operational from Kilambakkam.
  • Passenger Influx: On a trial basis, around 20,000 passengers arrived at Kilambakkam in Omni buses, with 9,200 utilizing shuttle services to reach the MTC terminus.
  • Omni Buses: The operation of Omni buses, primarily serving southern districts, was shifted to KCBT overnight, catching some passengers off guard.

Future Plans and Operations

  • Parking Facilities: Plans are underway to create parking space for Omni buses at Kilambakkam, expected to be ready by March, with current permission to park opposite KCBT.
  • Bus Route Changes: TNSTC buses to Bengaluru via Poonamallee and those running on East Coast Road will continue to operate from Koyambedu bus stand.
  • Point-to-Point Connectivity: Point-to-point buses from Tambaram to Kilambakkam will run every 10 minutes, and MTC buses will operate from Koyambedu to Kilambakkam via Maduravoyal.
  • MTC Services: MTC buses from Thiruvanmiyur to Kilambakkam will run on four routes, catering to passengers from the IT corridor, including services from Siruseri SIPCOT starting Friday.

Minister Addresses Concerns

Responding to opposition against the relocation of bus operations from Koyambedu, Minister Sivasankar drew parallels to the earlier shift from Broadway to Koyambedu. He expressed confidence that, in time, people would acclimate to the change, just as they did with the Koyambedu bus stand.

The move aims to optimize bus services, ease congestion, and provide efficient connectivity for commuters.
