Tirupati, the sacred temple city, is making efforts towards eco-friendly urban transportation by introducing its first air-conditioned electric double-decker bus. This initiative positions Tirupati as the first city in Andhra Pradesh and the second in the South, following Hyderabad, to operate such special double-decker buses.
Tirupati Electric Double-Decker Bus Announcement
- Scheduled Service Launch: The electric double-decker bus is slated to commence its service in Tirupati by the end of October.
- Successful Trial Runs: The bus has undergone successful trial runs, paving the way for plans to expand its fleet.
- Government Support: Valued at Rs 2 crore, the electric double-decker bus was procured by the municipal corporation under the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Ltd, a component of the central government’s Smart City project. It was purchased from Switch Mobility, the electric commercial vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland.
Collaboration for Operation
The municipal corporation of Tirupati has collaborated with the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to facilitate the operation of this eco-friendly bus.
Tirupati Electric Buses Service Routes
- Four Routes: The electric double-decker bus will serve four routes across the city, connecting essential tourist destinations, including temples and choultries.
- Service Commencement: Services are expected to begin after the conclusion of the Navaratri Brahmotsavams in Tirumala, by the end of October.
