RSRTC's proactive approach to passenger safety includes installing panic buttons in 4,000 buses, enhancing security and operational efficiency.

In a bid to boost passenger security and streamline operations, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has initiated the installation of panic buttons in its fleet of buses. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance safety measures for travelers across the state.

Key Highlights:

  • Installation Process: The RSRTC has commenced the installation of panic buttons in 4,000 buses, with 800 buses already equipped as part of a pilot project conducted between April and December last year. These buttons are being strategically placed in buses from 18 out of the 52 bus depots of the corporation.
  • Functionality: The panic buttons, located in each bus, can be activated by pressing them for three seconds during an emergency. Upon activation, an alert message containing the bus’s precise location coordinates is sent to both the depot’s chief manager and the corporation’s control center.
  • Enhanced Security: The implementation of panic buttons serves as a significant security measure for passengers. In the event of an emergency, authorities can immediately track the bus’s location and take necessary action. The system is also designed to facilitate live tracking of buses, enabling real-time monitoring of their movements.
  • Future Plans: RSRTC officials have revealed plans to further enhance the system by linking it to the state police helpline. This integration will enable a swift response from the police in case of emergencies.
  • Conductor Empowerment: Conductors have been empowered to use the panic button if passengers misbehave with them. This feature ensures that appropriate action can be taken promptly to address any issues.
  • Operational Efficiency: The panic button system not only enhances passenger safety but also contributes to the operational efficiency of RSRTC buses. Depot managers can utilize the live tracking feature to monitor bus speeds, identify deviations from set routes, and ensure adherence to schedules.

RSRTC’s initiative to install panic buttons in its buses underscores its commitment to passenger safety and efficient public transportation services. The integration of these buttons is expected to provide passengers with a sense of security while traveling and streamline bus operations across Rajasthan.
