The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to operate an unprecedented 4,953 extra buses for the Ganesh festival, facilitating travel from Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar to the Konkan region. This initiative aims to accommodate the surge of passengers heading to the Konkan belt for Ganapati celebrations starting September 3.
Deployment of Extra Buses
- Thane: 2,481 buses, including 2,064 group-booked.
- Mumbai: 1,841 buses, with 1,578 booked by groups and 417 additional.
- Palghar: 631 buses, comprising 558 group-booked and 73 extra.
Fare Concessions
- Senior Citizens: 100% fare concession for those over 75 years.
- Women: 50% discount on ticket fares.
Additional Measures for Passenger Comfort
- Maintenance Vehicles: Positioned along the Mumbai-Goa highway for the four-day period.
- Temporary Facilities: Toilets to be set up at various locations for passenger convenience.
Supporting Ganapati Festivities
The special services are designed to support the massive influx of visitors to the Konkan region, which sees significant travel during the Ganesh festival beginning on September 7. With MSRTC’s extensive fleet of 15,000 buses and a daily ridership exceeding 60 lakh passengers, these additional services are expected to ease travel and ensure a smooth journey for the celebrants.
