The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is gearing up to elevate travel experiences for passengers with a groundbreaking addition to its fleet. As the Ganesh festival approaches, the MSRTC is on track to introduce a fleet of around eight to 10 sleeper buses, promising enhanced comfort and convenience for travelers during the festive season.
Innovation for Comfortable Journeys
The MSRTC is all set to transform travel during the upcoming Ganesh festival by introducing sleeper buses that prioritize comfort and convenience for passengers:
Preparations for Festival Season
- Ganesh Festival Deadline: With the Ganesh festival commencing on September 19, the MSRTC is proactively working towards incorporating a new fleet of sleeper buses to cater to the increased travel demand during the festive period.
- Initial Prototype Success: MSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Shekhar Channe confirmed that the first prototype of the sleeper bus model has already been successfully registered. Building upon this achievement, the corporation is now focused on manufacturing more sleeper buses, aiming to have 8 to 10 buses operational by September.
- Gradual Rollout: The corporation envisions gradually rolling out a total of 50 sleeper buses in the near future, with a particular emphasis on high-demand routes that experience substantial traffic during the festive season.
Targeted Routes and High Demand
The sleeper bus services will initially cater to high-demand routes such as
- Mumbai-Konkan
- Pune-Sawantwadi
- Pune-Vengurla
These routes witness significant traffic as intra-state migrants return to Konkan from cities like Mumbai and Pune to celebrate the Ganesh festival.
Crafted for Comfort
- Manufacturing Process: The sleeper buses are being crafted at MSRTC’s centralized workshop in Pune. The bus chassis is sourced from TATA, while other essential components are procured from local vendors.
- First MSRTC Sleeper Buses: This endeavor marks the first time that the MSRTC is introducing sleeper buses into its fleet. Initially, the plan was to rent sleeper buses from a private contractor; however, due to non-supply of the contracted buses and high demand for such services, the MSRTC decided to establish its own fleet.
- Passenger Comfort and Design: The newly built sleeper buses will be non-AC and designed to accommodate up to 30 passengers. They will be equipped with BS6 diesel compliant engines, ensuring reduced emissions and a travel range of over 600 kilometers on a single tank.
The MSRTC’s initiative to introduce sleeper buses ahead of the Ganesh festival reflects its commitment to providing travelers with enhanced comfort and convenience during the festive season. As these innovative additions prepare to grace the roads of Maharashtra, passengers can anticipate a more relaxing and enjoyable journey, allowing them to celebrate the festival with loved ones in a state of comfort and ease.
