The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has successfully managed a massive surge in Ganeshotsav travelers from the Mumbai metropolitan region to Konkan, with over 1.3 lakh devotees using ST buses on Thursday.
Major Increase in Bus Operations
- Buses Deployed: MSRTC operated approximately 3,000 buses following the resolution of a two-day strike.
- Booking Statistics: Nearly 80% of the buses were booked by groups, reflecting high demand.
Key Travel Routes and Destinations
- Major Departures: Buses left from Mumbai Central, Dadar, Parel, Thane, and Palghar.
- Popular Destinations: Devgad, Guhagar, Khed, Dapoli, Rajapur, Malvan, Kankavli, Ratnagiri, and Chiplun.
Increased Demand and Operational Adjustments
- Booking Surge: This year, there is a 25% increase in bookings, with around 4,200 buses reserved by groups.
- Additional Services: MSRTC deployed around 200 extra buses from Dadar and other locations due to high demand.
Safety and Convenience Measures
- Maintenance and Support: Vehicle repair teams and safety squads will be stationed on highways, with temporary restrooms set up for passenger comfort.
- Staffing: MSRTC employees are working round the clock at bus stations to ensure smooth operations.
Looking Ahead
Last year saw about 1.8 lakh passengers, with expectations to exceed 2.25 lakh this year. MSRTC’s comprehensive planning aims to ensure a hassle-free Ganeshotsav experience for all travelers.
