During the Ashada season, KSRTC’s Mysuru City Division has successfully transported over 45,000 to 50,000 devotees to Chamundi Hills over the last two Ashada Fridays. The service has operated around 450 trips daily, ensuring smooth and efficient travel for pilgrims.
Key Details of the Service
- Service Hours: Buses ran from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight on Ashada Fridays, providing extensive coverage throughout the day.
- Frequency: Approximately 40 buses made 450-500 trips daily, accommodating the high volume of passengers.
- Traffic Regulation: Private vehicles are banned on Fridays and weekends during the Ashada season to manage traffic. Devotees park their vehicles at the foothills near Lalitha Mahal and board KSRTC buses at a makeshift bus stand for the ascent.
Benefits and New Arrangements
- Enhanced Traffic Management: The new restriction on private vehicles has streamlined traffic, making the journey to the hill more comfortable and less congested.
- Free and Discounted Travel: Rides to Chamundi Hills are free on Ashada Fridays. On Ashada weekends, passengers must purchase tickets, though women travel free under the Shakti scheme.
Official Statement
Veeresh H.T., Divisional Controller, stated that the KSRTC operations for the Ashada season have been smooth and well-received by devotees, noting that the removal of private vehicles has improved overall traffic conditions.
