KSRTC is set to introduce non-AC seater-cum-sleeper buses on inter-city routes to meet high passenger demand. This new initiative includes a trial run of 30 seater-cum-sleeper coaches and 70 non-AC sleeper coaches.

In response to increasing passenger demand, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to introduce non-AC seater-cum-sleeper buses on inter-city routes. This move aims to enhance travel options and comfort for commuters across Karnataka.

Introduction of Non-AC Seater-Cum-Sleeper Buses

  • New Addition: KSRTC has floated a tender on June 14 for the purchase of 30 seater-cum-sleeper coaches and 70 non-AC sleeper coaches.
  • First-Time Initiative: This marks the first time KSRTC is introducing non-AC seater-cum-sleeper buses, expanding their existing fleet of non-AC sleeper buses known as ‘Pallakki.’

Trial Runs and Induction Timeline

  • Trial Run: A trial run will be conducted with 5 out of the 30 seater-cum-sleeper coaches and 10 out of the 70 non-AC sleeper coaches for a month.
  • Induction Timeline: Officials plan to induct these buses within the next six months, subject to satisfactory performance during the trial runs.

Evaluation and Performance

  • Evaluation Process: The performance of the trial buses will be evaluated by a technical committee comprising CMEs and OEM/bidder representatives.
  • Outcome: If the performance is satisfactory, clearance will be given for the delivery of the remaining buses. If not, KSRTC reserves the right to cancel the remaining order without compensation.

Meeting Passenger Demand

  • High Demand: KSRTC’s Managing Director, V Anbukumar, highlighted the high demand for the Pallakki non-AC sleeper buses, prompting the exploration of non-AC seater-cum-sleeper options.
  • Potential Expansion: Depending on the success of this initiative, KSRTC may consider purchasing more such buses in the future.

Operational Scope and Revenue

  • Inter-State Operations: KSRTC operates inter-state buses to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Puducherry.
  • Daily Operations: The corporation covers an average of 27.64 lakh km daily with a fleet size of 8,113 vehicles, earning a traffic revenue of Rs 13.5 crore daily and catering to approximately 32.7 lakh passengers.

KSRTC’s initiative to introduce non-AC seater-cum-sleeper buses aims to provide a more comfortable and cost-effective travel option for passengers, potentially setting a new standard in inter-city transportation. For more details and updates, passengers can visit the official KSRTC website.
