In response to the increasing demand for cashless transactions, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced plans to adopt a cashless travel system on its buses. This move is aimed at providing passengers with a more convenient and efficient way to pay for their fares.
KSRTC Cashless Travel Key Highlights
- Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs): Bus conductors will soon be equipped with ETMs capable of accepting Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and other cashless payment modes.
- Partnership with EbixCash Ltd: KSRTC has awarded a long-term contract to EbixCash Ltd. to deploy the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) within the organization.
- Benefits of ITMS: The ITMS will automate fare ticketing and collection, streamline operations, and provide real-time data access. This will help minimize revenue losses and improve service efficiency.
- Initial Phase: The initial phase of the agreement will involve the installation of 10,245 ETMs across 8,000 buses. There are plans to install an additional 15,000 devices over the next five years.
- Convenience for Passengers: Cashless transactions will offer passengers a more convenient and faster way to pay for their tickets. This will also help reduce the need for cash handling by bus conductors.
- Streamlining Operations: The implementation of cashless transactions is expected to streamline operations and improve the overall efficiency of the bus service.
- Future Plans: KSRTC is also exploring the possibility of introducing smart cards for passengers, allowing them to pay for their tickets both on board and at ticketing points outside the bus.
This initiative is expected to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers and make bus travel more efficient and convenient.
