Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has been honored with the prestigious National Award for its successful implementation of the state Congress government’s ambitious ‘Shakti’ Yojna. The award was conferred by the Scotch Institute of Delhi, recognizing KSRTC’s outstanding efforts in executing the labor welfare initiative.
Double Recognition for KSRTC
- KSRTC’s ‘Shakti’ Yojna, a cornerstone scheme of the state Congress government, has been instrumental in providing free travel to women on all buses across Karnataka, except luxury, AC, and sleeper buses.
- Initiated on June 11, 2023, the scheme has facilitated free bus travel for an impressive 151 crore women passengers, amounting to a substantial value of 3,614 crore.
- Value tickets issued under the ‘Shakti’ Yojna have significantly contributed to the revenue of many temples across the state.
Awards Ceremony
- YK Prakash, Deputy Chief Accountant at KSRTC, had the honor of receiving the Scotch Awards during a distinguished ceremony held at the Constitution Club of India in Delhi.
- Samir Kochhar, Founder Chairman of Scotch Group, and Gurusharan, Vice Chairman, presented the awards to KSRTC.
KSRTC Continuous Employee Welfare Initiatives
- KSRTC has also spearheaded various initiatives for the welfare of its employees, including the allocation of one crore rupees for KSRTC personnel and the introduction of a value insurance facility.
- The transportation corporation has been a pioneer in employee welfare, setting a benchmark for other organizations in the sector.
Recognition by the Scotch Institute
- Established in 1997, the Delhi-based Scotch Institute has been conferring the Scotch Award since 2003, recognizing excellence in governance, finance, technology adoption, and internal growth achieved by various organizations.

- Earlier this year, KSRTC received the prestigious SKOCH National Award-2023 for its innovative Rs 1 Crore accident relief Sarige Suraksha Insurance Scheme for its staff, further solidifying its position as a leader in the transportation sector.
- The SKOCH Group India, an independent think tank industry based in Delhi, has been recognizing excellence in governance, finance, technology, and inclusive growth through the SKOCH awards since 2003.
