The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is gearing up for the upcoming Makaravilakku season at Sabarimala by deploying over 800 buses to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims. In a recent review meeting, the Transport Department outlined its plans for the season, emphasizing safety measures and improved services.
KSRTC Phase I: Special Buses for Sabarimala Pilgrims
- During the initial phase, from now until December 5, KSRTC will deploy 473 buses to Sabarimala.
- This fleet includes 140 low-floor non-AC buses, 60 Volvo low-floor AC buses, 15 deluxe buses, 245 superfast and fast passenger buses, 10 super express buses, and three short-wheelbase buses.
KSRTC Phase II: Expanding Bus Services to Sabarimala
- In the second phase of deployment, 513 buses will be put into service.
- This phase consists of 140 non-AC low-floor buses, 60 Volvo AC low-floor buses, 285 fast passenger and superfast buses, 10 super express buses, 15 deluxe buses, and three short-wheelbase buses.
KSRTC Special Service Centers
- KSRTC will introduce 14 special service centers across key locations.
- These centers will be established in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Kumily, Erumeli, Chengannur, Kottarakkara, Pampa, Punalur, Adoor, Thrissur, Guruvayoor, and Kayamkulam.
- Additionally, the Transport Minister, Antony Raju, noted that KSRTC would provide pickup services for pilgrim groups with over 40 members.
KSRTC Promoting Road Safety
- The Transport Department aims to raise awareness among motorists from other states who may not be familiar with the hilly terrain of Pathanamthitta district.
- Short videos and informative content will be shared on social media platforms to enhance road safety awareness.
- The state has successfully reduced accidents during Sabarimala pilgrim seasons through the implementation of the Sabarimala safe zone project, a joint effort by various departments and authorities, including the Motor Vehicle Department, Kerala Road Safety Authority, Police, Public Works Department, Fire Force, Devaswom Board, Health Department, and BSNL.
- Roadside breakdowns will be promptly attended to to prevent traffic congestion, and adequate parking space will be provided at locations like Pampa and Erumeli.
- To ensure the safety of pilgrims, there will be an increased presence of signboards, reflectors, convex mirrors, and boards displaying helpline numbers along the pilgrimage route.
