The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is set to commence the trial run of its newly launched superfast premium air-conditioned bus. This trial aims to evaluate the performance of the vehicle and make necessary adjustments before it is officially deployed for public service.

Premium AC Bus Trial Run
- Trial Purpose: To assess the performance of the new superfast premium AC bus and implement necessary changes.
- Bus Specifications: The 40-seater bus features pushback seats, except at the rear, and side windows that can be opened if the AC fails.
Service and Fare Details
- Fare: The premium service fare is higher than the existing superfast service.
- Exclusive City Service: Existing Volvo low-floor AC buses will be redirected exclusively for city services.
- Initial Procurement: KSRTC plans to procure 48 buses from Tata and Leyland in the first phase, with a total goal of 220 buses priced between Rs 36 and Rs 38 lakh each.
- Major Depots: These buses will stop only at major depots, but passengers can board at non-stop locations by paying an additional Rs 10 and providing their boarding location via Google Maps at the time of booking.
Onboard Amenities
- Refreshments: KSRTC is finalizing a project to offer snacks, bottled water, tea, and coffee on long-distance buses, addressing passengers’ grievances about the lack of refreshments.
- Food Shelf and Vending Machine: A food shelf near the driver’s cabin and a vending machine for tea and coffee will be installed. KSRTC plans to lease out the space to private contractors, with bids invited for the setup.
