The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (Kerala RTC) has expanded its double-decker bus service to Thalassery, following its success in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. The bus, which can accommodate 28 passengers on the lower deck and 21 on the upper deck, offers a unique way to experience Thalassery’s heritage tourism.
KSRTC Double Decker Bus Service Features and Services
- Facilities: The bus is equipped with measures to ensure a smooth journey, including adjustments for electric cables, lines, and tree branches that may obstruct the route.
- Fares: Initially, fares will be higher than regular rates, with discounted fares available for students.
- Operation Hours: In Thiruvananthapuram, the double-decker bus operates its night city ride starting at 5 p.m. and day city ride at 9 a.m., charging a fare of Rs. 250 per person.
Future Plans and Inauguration
- Destinations: The bus will transit through various tourist attractions in Thalassery, including Illikkal Gundert Bungalow, courts, Overbury’s Folly, Kadalpalam, St. John’s Anglican Church, Cricket Stadium, Wellesley Bungalow, Jagannath Temple, M. Mukundan Park, Mahe Basilica Church, and Muzhappilangad Beach.
- Inauguration: The event will be inaugurated by Minister of Transport, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, on February 22, as part of an initiative by speaker A.N. Shamseer to promote heritage tourism in Thalassery.
Arrival and Reception
- Route: The bus journeyed from Thiruvananthapuram city depot to Thalassery, reaching its destination on Friday noon.
- Reception: A large crowd gathered at Thalassery Depot to welcome the bus, eager to experience the new mode of transportation.
The introduction of the double-decker bus service in Thalassery is expected to provide both residents and tourists with a unique and enjoyable way to explore the rich heritage of the region.
