The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has commenced a trial run for its new non-AC 28-34 seater diesel-powered ordinary bus, designed to enhance connectivity in narrow and less populated rural areas.
Last-Mile Connectivity in Rural Areas

Performance of Other Bus Services
- Superfast Premium AC Bus: Trial run showing financial and technical viability with daily revenue between ₹7,500 and ₹8,000.
- Electric Buses: After rescheduling, 146 out of 150 buses are generating over ₹35 per kilometre, with daily earnings increasing from ₹2,100 to over ₹6,000.
Additional Initiatives
- Blind-Friendly Bus Shelters: Measures are being implemented to make bus shelters accessible for the visually impaired.
- Student Concessions: Concession cards to be issued via an online app and upgraded to smart cards.
- Driving Test Reforms: Mandate for qualified instructors to accompany candidates during driving tests to improve test quality.
