In a significant move to empower women and promote gender equality, During a meeting with the Managing Directors of four divisions of the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced the free bus travel initiative for women. He clarified that there would be “NO CONDITIONS” attached to the scheme, and all women, regardless of their economic background or residential status, would be eligible to travel for free in government-run buses.
“We did not categorize women for this scheme in our manifesto, so all women will be eligible to travel for free in government buses. The Chief Minister will officially announce it after the cabinet meeting tomorrow. We will also submit a report on the expenses of this scheme to the Chief Minister,” stated Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
The decision to provide free bus travel for women aligns with the promises made by the Congress party during their election campaign. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi himself traveled on a local bus and assured the public that the scheme would be implemented soon after the party assumed power. With the Congress party securing a resounding victory in the state elections, citizens eagerly awaited the fulfillment of these electoral pledges.
The introduction of free bus travel for women underscores the government’s commitment to gender inclusivity and accessibility. This initiative aims to promote greater mobility and affordability for women, empowering them to participate fully in various aspects of public life. As June 1st approaches, women across Karnataka eagerly anticipate the commencement of this new policy, which will contribute to a more inclusive and progressive society.
