In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) will purchase nearly 300 electric vehicles and replace 24 old Volvo buses with new ones, announced Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Friday.

Deputy CM Agnihotri chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors (BoD) of HRTC and discussed several initiatives to enhance the corporation’s services and revenue. Key points from the meeting include
- Purchase of Electric Vehicles:
- HRTC will procure 297 electric vehicles.
- Tenders for these vehicles will be floated soon.
- Replacement of Volvo Buses:
- 24 old Volvo buses will be replaced with new ones.
- Introduction of Tempo Travellers:
- 100 new tempo travellers will be introduced on specific routes to ensure comfortable journeys for commuters.
- Addition of Diesel Buses:
- 250 diesel buses will also be purchased in the near future.
Appointment of Bus Conductors and Wage Increase
- Bus Conductors:
- The process of appointing 357 bus conductors is complete, and they will begin their duties soon.
- Honorarium Increase for Daily Wagers:
- The honorarium for daily wagers will be increased from Rs 375 to Rs 400.
Commitment to Service and Employee Welfare
- Service to 70 Lakh People:
- HRTC, which will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary, serves 70 lakh people in Himachal Pradesh.
