HRTC is set to expand its fleet with 300 new buses, enhancing services across Himachal Pradesh. Despite challenges, the corporation remains dedicated to providing safe, affordable transport for commuters.

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is set to expand its fleet by adding 300 new HRTC buses, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced recently. This move aims to enhance the quality of transportation services for commuters across the state, especially given Himachal Pradesh’s limited air and rail connectivity. The announcement came as part of HRTC’s golden jubilee celebrations, marking 50 years of service.

Fleet Expansion and Service Commitment

  • 300 New Buses: HRTC will soon add 300 new buses to its existing fleet of 3,000 to improve its offerings.
  • Volvo Bus Replacement: The entire fleet of 24 Volvo buses will be replaced to maintain high-quality services.
  • Subsidized Travel: The government is providing Rs 50 lakh daily in subsidies for concessional travel, benefiting people from 27 different categories.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations

  • Museum and Wall of Honour: Inaugurating a museum and wall of honour at the HRTC’s main office, Agnihotri highlighted the corporation’s legacy since 1974. The wall showcases significant decisions, achievements, and awards earned by HRTC.
  • Upcoming Celebration: A grand function will be held on October 12 to commemorate HRTC’s 50 years of service.

Support for Employees and Public Service

  • Employee Welfare: Efforts are being made to ensure timely payment of salaries and pensions for HRTC employees, improving their morale and contribution to the corporation’s success.
  • Public Service Dedication: Despite financial losses, HRTC continues to serve 94% of the state’s routes, providing safe and affordable travel. It is viewed as a social welfare service rather than a profit-oriented business.

Future Plans

  • Driver and Conductor Accommodation: An agreement has been signed to provide accommodation facilities for HRTC drivers and conductors in New Delhi, further improving the working conditions for staff.

HRTC plays a critical role in connecting Himachal’s towns and villages, and adding new buses will strengthen the corporation’s commitment to offering safe and reliable transport across the state.
