The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is gearing up to make this Diwali special for travelers in Surat. With the festival rush in mind, GSRTC plans to run 2,200 extra buses from Surat to various destinations between November 7 and November 11. This move aims to accommodate the numerous people traveling to their native places during the festive season. Harsh Sanghavi, the Minister of State for Home and Transport, has also warned private bus operators against hiking fares unreasonably.
GSRTC Special Buses for Diwali Festival
As Diwali approaches, Surat witnesses an influx of people from regions such as Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and other parts of the state. Many of them work in Surat’s diamond, textile, and other sectors and visit their hometowns during Diwali. To make their journeys convenient, the Gujarat state government has taken a proactive step to ensure travel options are readily available.
GSRTC Diwali Buses Key Highlights
- 2,200 Extra Buses: The GSRTC plans to deploy 2,200 additional buses from Surat to destinations in Saurashtra, North Gujarat, Panchmahal, and Maharashtra.
- Fare Information: The travel fares from Surat to various locations have been announced. For instance, traveling to Amreli will cost Rs 400, Savarkundla Rs 425, Bhavnagar Rs 350, Mahuva Rs 405, Rajkot Rs 385, Junagadh Rs 435, Jamnagar Rs 445, Ahmedabad Rs 280, Dahod Rs 305, and Chhota Udepur Rs 275.
Gujarat’s Expanding Bus Network
Harsh Sanghavi highlighted that the BJP government in Gujarat has been actively increasing the number of buses to reach areas lacking bus connectivity. Currently, around 8,000 buses operate daily, covering approximately 33 lakh kilometers and benefiting over 25 lakh passengers. The government is also focused on the recruitment process within the ST department and plans to extend bus services to every village in the state, ensuring comprehensive public transport coverage.
