Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have led to over 190 road closures and disruptions in infrastructure. With a yellow alert in place till August 7, HRTC suspends 82 bus routes due to severe weather.

Himachal Pradesh has experienced severe disruptions due to continuous rainfall over the past four days. The state has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain until August 7. Here are the latest updates:

  • Road Closures: Over 190 roads are closed statewide. The breakdown is as follows:
    • Mandi: 79 roads
    • Kullu: 38 roads
    • Chamba: 35 roads
    • Shimla: 30 roads
    • Kangra: 5 roads
    • Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti: 2 roads each
  • Infrastructure Impact: The heavy rains have disrupted 294 transformers and 120 water supply schemes.

Suspension of Bus Services

  • HRTC Update: The Himachal Roads Transport Corporation (HRTC) has suspended bus services on 82 out of 3,612 routes.
  • Impact on Transportation: This suspension affects travel across many areas, complicating transportation during the ongoing weather conditions.

Rainfall Statistics

  • Highest Rainfall: Jogindernagar has recorded 85 mm of rain, followed by Gohar (80 mm) and Shilaroo (76.4 mm).
  • Other Notable Figures:
    • Poanta Sahib: 67.2 mm
    • Palampur: 57.2 mm
    • Dharamshala: 55.6 mm
    • Chopal: 52 mm

Casualties and Financial Impact

  • Fatalities: Since the monsoon’s onset on June 27, rain-related incidents have resulted in 77 deaths.
  • Economic Loss: The state has incurred losses amounting to ₹655 crore.
